Georgia has a lot of Thai people living here. I know because I had friends that moved from Illinois down to Georgia when the father wanted to retire. Their son went to school at Georgia Tech I believe.
I have another friend in Georgia that loves to go to the Thai food restaurants close to his house in North Atlanta. Wow, I forget what the area is called… and I even used to WORK there! The company was based there anyway. It’s just not coming to mind.
Georgia is pretty warm, like Thailand. But, it seems that more Thais live in Florida where it’s VERY hot most of the year.
The northeast part of Thailand, though cool in the winters – even COLD in the winters, is blistering hot in the Summer time. It is so dry and yet so, so hot. I rode a motorbike when I was there – so I have vivid memories of the sun scorching my skin as I sat waiting for long traffic lights. There are lights that last 4 minutes there! Really, 160 seconds – they show you on the counter.
Now we’re in the south and it’s actually COOLER here. We’re closer to the equator, but it’s also closer to the ocean. The northeast is almost desert like. Very dry over all and they’re always worried about if they’ll have enough rain during the wet season to make it through the dry season.
So far we’ve seen those two areas. My wife is from the northeast so she’s LOVING this cool summer weather here. I told her that maybe we’re going to try the north. The north is straight up above Bangkok and gets very cold in the Winters but the summers are supposed to be nice. Gets hot too in Summer but really, nothing is hotter than Bangkok year round.
Literally. Bangkok has been rated the HOTTEST city in the entire world for average temperatures during day and night. The night temps there are STILL blistering. The concrete holds the heat in and releases it at night. It’s horrible.
So, Bangkok is “out” of the equation for our next move!
